The CIF in collaboration with Industry Training Services (ITS) City & Guilds Confined Space 2 Day medium Risk course is designed for workers required to enter medium-risk confined spaces including those requiring atmospheric monitoring and enhanced controls. The course equips delegate with the knowledge, skills and understanding to safely enter, work within, and exit medium-risk confined spaces in compliance with current legislation and industry best practice.

- Identify and classify confined spaces by risk level
- Demonstrate understanding of relevant legislation including Confined Spaces Regulations 2001
- Conduct or contribute to a confined space risk assessment
- Select, inspect and use appropriate PPE and atmospheric monitoring equipment
- Operate within a permit-to-work system
- Understand gas testing principles and interpret monitor readings
- Demonstrate correct entry and exit procedures
- Identify emergency procedures and the importance of rescue pre-planning
- Understand the roles of entrant, attendant and supervisor
DAY 1: Theory
- Legislation and regulatory framework (Confined Spaces Regulations 2001, Safety, Health and Welfare at work Act 2005, Chemical Agents Regulations.
- Classification of confined spaces – medium-risk characteristics
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Permit-to-work systems and documentation
- Atmospheric monitoring equipment: types, calibration, use and limitations
- Gas hazards: oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable and toxic atmospheres
- PPE selection and inspection
- Communication and lone working considerations
DAY 2: Practical Application
- Equipment checks and PPE donning
- Supervised entry and exit exercises
- Atmospheric monitoring practical
- Permit-to-work completion exercises
- Emergency signal recognition and initial response
- Written and practical assessment, with test paper
All delegates will have a City & Guilds written examination and practical assessment.
On successful completion of both elements candidates will be receive:
- City & Guilds Confined Space Medium Risk Certificate
- 14 CPD Points

Non-Member Rate: €595.00
- 10 working days’ notice will incur a 50% cancellation
- 5 working days’ notice or less will incur a 100% cancellation fee. A ‘no show’ on the day also incurs a 100% cancellation fee.
- Substitute delegates are permitted on all course
- CIF charges an administration fee of €125 for delegate
- CIF reserves the right to cancel course dates in the event of insufficient
