It is often taken for granted that managers understand finance from their formal education but college courses don’t always capture the reality of the workplace.

This seminar is designed to help managers without a financial background, understand common financial terminology, key financial concepts and financial reporting. The knowledge gained will enable interpretation of financial statements to drive participants business and careers forward.

Module 1

The Profit & Loss

This module explains the structure and terminology of the Profit & Loss. (also known as the Income Statement). The focus is on helping the participants understand how the financial statement is really the story of company performance over a period of time.  Emphasis is placed on what to look out for and key metrics that can be established at operational level
to deliver organisational improvements.

Module 2

The Balance Sheet

This module explains the structure and terminology of the Balance Sheet. The focus is on helping the participants understand how the financial statement is really identifying what the company is worth at a point in time. In a similar manner as the Profit and Loss module, emphasis is placed on what to look out for and key metrics that can be established at a operational level to deliver organisational improvements.

Module 3

Cash Flow Forecasting

This module explains the difference between profits and cash and the participants are taken through a fully worked model on preparing a cashflow forecast. Examples will be provided of transactions on the Profit and Loss but not on Cash flow and vice versa.

The course is ideal for anyone in a non financial managerial role looking to understand the key concepts of finance and how they can be applied to their everyday work.
