IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED THE CIF IOSH MSIC PROGRAM YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMPLETE THE NEW COURSE, BUT YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR CIF VERIFCIATION OF COMPETENCY CARD EVERY THREE YEARS. 

The course covers issues that would be seen as key for the safety management of people on site.

The CIF IOSH Managing Safely in Construction will be as of January 2022 been rebranded under new licensing arrangement with IOSH as the CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Programme.

This tailored programme is specifically designed and built by the Construction Industry Federations Learning & Development Department for the Irish Construction sector and was the first of its kind in Ireland. The CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Program covers critical safety issues that would be seen as key for people going on site.

The CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Programme provides a strong core safety content over five days. The course is delivered in one day per week over a five week period by our experienced panel of tutors. Each day comprises two half day modules.

CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Programme is certified by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) – providing an international accreditation. It is also recognised throughout the industry as being the foundation programme for safety supervision and management on construction projects in Ireland.

Health and Safety Legislation. (Including Course Assignment brief)

A good comprehension of the Irish legal system as it applies to health and safety in the construction sector. A key learning outcome is that learners recognise the key health and safety legislation covering work and work in construction, and understand how the requirements are to be applied, monitored and enforced in practical terms.

Accident Investigation & Insurance Claims.

Learning outcome is a deeper understanding of the need for accurate accident reporting and investigation, which includes an outline of the recommended processes/tools/guidance for undertaking investigation and for identifying the root cause(s) to prevent a reoccurrence. A case study is utilised to demonstrate how poor site management can contribute to an accident, and to discuss the methodology to be used during accident investigation.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification including Method Statements.

Learning outcome is a good comprehension of the hazard identification and risk assessment process, with demonstrated implementation of a risk assessment for the learner’s chosen scope of work. The appropriate means for relaying the findings of risk assessments and for outlining safe systems of work are explained.

Fire & Electrical Safety in Construction.

Learners will be able to effectively plan and oversee work mindful of the potential fire and electrical hazards, considering contingency planning.

Work at Heights systems & prevention of falls.

Learning outcome is a deeper understanding of the hazards and associated risks with this area of site activity, which is one of the major courses of injury and death. This complex and hard to manage workplace is one of the critical areas which requires on site supervision/management to ensure falls from height which is a leading cause of fatalities due to the incorrect selection of work equipment or systems of work.

 

Scaffolding and hazard spotting.

The CIF’s experienced tutor brings a unique knowledge with regards to scaffolding. Systems, and shares a very practical approach, which can be immediately applied on site to recognise issues with scaffold or tower systems that can lead to critical failures

Excavations, Roadworks and Confined Spaces.

Learners will understand how to identify live services and be able to implement protective measures for safe working in underground services, excavations, confined space and on roads.

Plant & Machinery in Construction.

Learners will be able to apply their knowledge of best practice measures to protect workers from the risks associated with vehicles, mobile equipment and tools typically found on construction sites.

Occupational Health Construction.

Learners will be able to apply their learnings in terms of recognising occupational health considerations and implementing appropriate control measures to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of all persons in the workplace.

The examination process is by risk assessment /method statement assignment and on the final day of the course via an online examination with multiple / varied choice type questions to be completed via the CIF examination portal.

 

On day 5, attendees will have to complete an Online Exam comprising of both multiple choice and short answers questions.  The duration of the exam is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

On successful completion candidates will be awarded:

  • CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Managers Programme Certificate
  • CIF SCMP Verification of Competency Safety Card [Renewed every 3 years via online renewal]
  • 30 CPD Points

Exam re-sits will incur a fee of €75.00.

The CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Programme is held over five days, one day a week over five weeks. Daily start time is 09.30 am to 16.30 pm.The CIF IOSH Safety for Construction Manager Programme – Fast Track course is held on five days over the course of three weeks. Daily start is 09.30 am to 16.30 pm.

  • 5 working days’ notice or less will incur a 100% cancellation fee. A ‘no show’ on the day also incurs a 100% cancellation fee.

  • CIF reserves the right to cancel course dates in the event of insufficient
